The Archon amp has been really well received by the press and players since its launch at the end of last year. Its combination of staggering hi-gain tone, full cleans AND a lovely, chunky, responsive overdrive has won it a lot of fans.
So we’re really excited about the arrival of the new Archon 50 head and combo for those players who want the original’s amazing tone in a more compact, lower wattage package. With 50 watts – switchable to 25 via the amp’s back panel – the Archon 50 breaks up at a lower volume, resulting in a more classically driven tone than its predecessor.
The added option of 6L6 or EL34 power tubes allows players to further personalise the tone and feel of the Archon 50. 6L6 tubes offer plenty of versatility and warmer, more balanced tone across the full range of frequencies. They will also push with less saturation for a bit of a sweeter, smoother tone. EL34 tubes offer focused, tight, punchy gain – they run a little hotter, distort earlier, and deliver a wider range of overdriven, crunch tones that are great for rock distortion.
The 1×12″ Archon 50 combo gets a classic Celestion G12-75T speaker, making it a killer package for rehearsals, in the studio or smaller gigs (on its own) or even bigger venues with an extension cab. The two-channel amp is really set to make waves when it arrives in Europe in October – in the meantime there’s loads of further information in terms of specifications and video content on the amp here!
